  • Measured on one PC: Windows 10 Pro, AMD Ryzen 5 8500G (12 threads), 31 GB RAM, NVMe SSD. Results on your PC will differ.
  • Both programs indexed the same files: the whole C: drive, about 11.8 million files (11,681,482 matched when the two lists were compared). Chatda also indexed the text inside documents.
  • First indexing was timed twice for each program, taking turns. Search times are the median of 30 runs of the same search, until the first 100 results appeared.
  • The other program's search times were taken with its command-line tool, which adds a fixed start-up cost of about 7 ms. Chatda is faster in every search even with that cost removed.
  • Chatda had “Include all files” turned on. Its default settings skip developer folders such as node_modules and are lighter: 13 s to index and 224 MB of memory for 2.9 million files.
